It has been a while since my last post. For the last two months I have found myself struggling for inspiration and no therapy related injury, exercise or condition has piqued my creative juices.
I have however been on a personal journey that while not directly related is a key component to physical rehabilitation and fitness in general.
After almost 30 years working in physical therapy I can with almost compete accuracy tell which patients are going to succeed and which will fail with their rehab.
How can I tell? Attitude!! How an individual approaches the process mentally has almost as much to do with success as the process of actually performing the rehab program.
If a patient comes to the clinic with the mind set that they “HAVE” to do it or the doctors are “MAKING” them do it, their chances of recovery are significantly diminished.
Yes I realize quite readily that an injured person who is hurting is going to have a difficult time finding and /or maintaining a positive perspective. However if they perceive the process in a positive light such as being grateful that there are people with the knowledge and skill to help who will give their time and share their knowledge and expertise to help with recovery their chances of success are multiplied. This includes approaching the program with an attitude that it will work “If I do my home program and attend my PT session I’ll get better” as opposed to “I have to do those stupid PT exercises and the drive all the way to the clinic for my appointment”.
Approaching rehab, fitness, diet and in general life with a positive mental state truly has magical powers toward success.
Yes life gets in the way, not everything is good all the time but with a better, more positive approach the road down the bad times can be less bumpy.
Sports:
Since my last correspondence much has happened in the world of sports ,The Cubs broke the “Curse of the Billygoat”, Alabama continues to dominate college football and the NFL has continued through the season with a consistent ho hum.
Why has the NFL been for the most part a yawn fest? Hard to say. Initially it was theorized by many that the presidential election was diverting interest away from the games but with the conclusion of the voting ratings for games has not increased substantially.
Many also site a greater number of entertainment options which is a viable possibility when accounting for the casual fan especially.
Another possibility may be fully apparent with the broadcast of tonight’s Thursday Night Football matching The Los Angeles Rams and The Seattle Seahawks.
TNF for the most part this season has provided a series of uninspiring games. Limited preparation time and limited recovery time for the players are one possible reason along with less than attractive match ups.
Tonight is no exception The Rams have seemed to have booked the off season vacations. The recent an all too late firing of Jeff Fischer will likely have a negative effect on the short prep week and they have shown zero offense throughout the season.
Must see TV?? Not really. Forecast is an ass whoopin’ by The ‘Hawks, but as it’s been said “that’s why they play the game” and “on any given Sunday in the NFL…..”
We Shall See!
RocknRoll:
December 15, 2016 marks the 49th anniversary of the album “The Who Sell Out”.
This was the band’s third album and in the opinion of many the first of their “concept” albums and featured the hit “I Can See For Miles”.
It is also noted for the lawsuits filed by companies whose products were used with out permission by the band on the cover.
I guess maybe really they didn’t sell out (that time).
Glad to be back!!
Until next time Live happy, be healthy and RocknRoll!!!
