Therex:

While driving to  a business conference a man made a wrong turn and found himself lost. In his attempts to find his way back he came to a road winding it’s way up a large hill.

At the base of this road were two men.  The driver stopped, opened his window and asked. “Excuse me, where does this road go?”  The first man looked at him sneered slightly and said “It goes to the top of the hill.” Then turned and walked away.

The second man looked at him  smiled and said “Actually that road goes to that tall pine tree, then to that beautiful water fall, then to that over look down into the valley and then to the top of the hill where you can see exactly where it is you want to be.”

You are likely asking “What does this have to do with therapeutic exercise?”

The point is that whether it’s a rehabilitation program, an exercise and nutrition program or any other myriad of tasks.  We often focus too much on the destination (the end result) as opposed to the journey (the means to get there).

Often times the journey is  windy  and up hill and can be frustrating because it’s taking so long to reach the destination.

If we concentrate more on the journey and see closer stops along the way (smaller achievements toward the final destination) the journey will seem less daunting and when the destination is reached we can see our future ahead of us with greater clarity and with a feeling of accomplishment.

Keep going!! Every day.

Sports:

On the local front here in Denver, CO there was a Yankee invasion as New York City’s American League representatives arrived for a two game set with The Rockies at Coors Field.

This years version of the “Evil Empire” that is The Yankees is notable with by it’s lack of “star power”.  Several of the more notable players are currently on the DL and the most recognizable figure on the team Alex Rodriguez appears to this point to be a shell of his former self.

That being said name recognition is what it is and Coors Field was packed.  Listening to the crowd it seemed to be about an even split of Yankees to Rockies fans (which is often the case here locally when the big name teams come to town).

The fans were treated to a good old fashion Coors Field battle with the home team carrying a 9 run lead into the 8th inning only to see the visitors score 7 in the frame.

The bottom of the 8th saw local hero Carlos Gonzales hit a solo home run for a 3 run cushion that held up in the bottom of ninth with young flame throwing sensation Carlos Esteves getting the save.

A fired up full house at Coors Field on a Tuesday night in June does not happen if it’s not The Yankees.  I think the league should consider having The Yankees go to every smaller market every year (I know not possible).  Every team deserves one Tuesday night with a packed house!!

Rock n Roll :

Today June 15th marks the 50th anniversary of The Beatles Capitol records release of Yesterday and Today with the infamous “Butcher Baby” cover.

As has been stated previously I love The Beatles.  My Father was very quick to get each  of the Capitol (American Label) albums as soon as they hit the shelf.

Our/ his copy of Yesterday and Today had the picture of the band sitting around a Steamer Trunk (the compromise cover photo post outrage at the original).

I was 3 years old when this album came out and listened to it as I did most of our Beatles albums religiously for years not knowing the butcher baby story until about age 12.

Once I heard the story excitedly started peeling the cover off the album hoping to reveal a collectors item (Capitol supposedly just slapped the second cover over the first on many albums creating an instant collectors item worth big bucks).  Alas, not to be.

Luckily Elmer’s glue worked on a “restoration” of the cover and I didn’t do any damage to the vinyl. You can still hear Day Tripper, Drive My Car,  Yesterday etc. etc. in their scratchy Hi fidelity at my Dad’s house to this day.  The Elmer’s has held too don’t think Dad knows yet. OOPS.

“til next time   keep going don’t stop.
